Little Golden Books launched in October 1942. Initially, there were 12 books in a series. The first books had 42 pages and they were printed on a mass scale to keep the costs as low as possible in order to allow most people to buy them at 25p-50p when average books were about $2. So they were very affordable and they were also sold in drug stores, supermarkets and other frequently visited shops, so there were not only found in bookshops.
