This is yet another poem inspired by WORD OF THE MONTH, an online event run by children’s writer and poet David L Harrison. The word for February 2021 is replay.

Now, when I first saw the word that David picked I was shocked. How can anyone write a poem with that?! I thought I will have to skip this month, but…

It didn’t take me that long to come up with, actually, quite a long poem. So here it is:

Forget the Unforgettables

There is
nothing new under the sun
they say
What you need
is already here
my love
Doing the same things
and expecting different results
is a definition of insanity
they say
So stop wasting
your nows
by replaying your yesterdays
over and over
Don't be
like that rat
or hamster
in a spinning wheel
Constantly spinning
but going
exactly NOWHERE
Forget the bad
the ugly
the failed plans
the unforgettable pains
the I love yous you didn't hear
but longed for
Forget
missed opportunities
fat chances you never got
lucky breaks that never crossed your path
swardy words somebody said
the words you said but didn't mean to
and the words you didn't say
on time
Stop pinching yourself today
with thoughts about blue yesterdays
There is no need
to get red angry
yet again
Do not press
that replay button again
Red and blue
will make you
purple with grief
Living in the now
is too good
to waste it
for replaying
the unforgettables
